Lucy Ellen Guernsey (1826–1899) was an American author, editor, and educator best known for her children’s fiction and moral stories. Over a career spanning three decades, she wrote more than sixty books, many of which were published by the American Sunday School Union and other religious publishers. Her stories emphasized character, faith, compassion, and personal responsibility, making them popular with young readers during the nineteenth century. Beyond her literary work, Guernsey was active in charitable and educational efforts in Rochester, New York, where she supported community organizations and edited the religious periodical The Parish Visitor. Her contributions to children’s literature and Christian education remain an important part of nineteenth-century American publishing history.
