Rachilde was the pen name of French writer Marguerite Vallette-Eymery (1860–1953), an influential novelist, playwright, and literary critic whose work helped shape the French Decadent and Symbolist movements. Throughout a career spanning more than six decades, she explored themes of identity, desire, power, and social convention, often challenging the expectations of her era. Her bold and unconventional storytelling made her one of the most distinctive literary voices of late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century France. In addition to her fiction, Rachilde played an important role in Parisian literary circles, encouraging discussion and promoting emerging writers. Today, her works continue to be studied for their literary innovation and lasting influence on modern literature.
